Of Montreal

On sale Friday 9th July at 9am

Of Montreal, fronted by Kevin Barnes, comes to London Shepherds Bush Empire. The indie pop band who's style has been known to change between albumswas formed in Athens, Georgia, United States in 1997.

They were among the second wave of groups to emerge from The Elephant 6 Recording Company and the group has a style that is typical of many Elephant 6 bands due to their interest in combining musical experimentation with the basic tenets of pop i.e. catchy melodies and sing-along choruses. The band's style has been influenced by conventional indie pop, psychedelic music, vaudeville and music hall on their earlier releases and by afrobeat, funk, krautrock and reggae on their recent releases.

Of Montreal will have support from 'Local Natives', Favouring a new breed of energetic, percussion-driven music, this clan of five gentleman craft songs reminiscent of a musical tribe, singing and dancing in harmony, with the eccentricity of Talking Heads and the aura of Broken Social Scene.

With electrified, sweet melodies, Local Natives were one of the most talked about bands at this year’s SXSW, picking up across the board plaudits for their strikingly beautiful baroque, harmonic pop.

In the age of auto tune and vocoders, Local Natives is one of those rare bands defined by their ability to deliver live. In fact, it has been more of challenge for the group to translate the vibrant and exciting nature of their performances to a recording than vice versa.
