Chris De Burgh
Announces Footsteps 2 2013 UK Tour.
Songs which moved and motivated Chris de Burgh to become a better writer himself are at the core of 'Footsteps 2'. In a variety of ways, the 10 'covers' on the new album each proved influential to Chris in forging and developing his career - and one of the original versions quite literally stopped him in his tracks when he first heard it.
"I had to pull my car over to the side of the road and simply listen," says Chris of 'The Living Years' by Mike & The Mechanics . "It suddenly hit me about my own relationship with my father, which was not the easiest. I couldn't drive because I was crying. The tears were rolling down my face and this song helped me to build bridges between myself and my father."
Whereas the songs featured on his successful 2009 album 'Footsteps' were selected for being inspirational personal favourites often performed by Chris, the material on 'Footsteps 2' was chosen for the "big effect" it has had upon him. "Music is the soundtrack to our own lives," he says. "These songs, at particular times in my life, were cornerstones. They were the footsteps, like stepping stones across the river, that helped me on my way."
The result is the third new album Chris has recorded and released in as many years; a prolific output by any standards, with the two 'Footsteps' projects sandwiching 2010's hit album of original material, 'Moonfleet & Other Stories'.
As always, Chris is set go on the road in support of his latest release, just as soon as he's completed the final leg of the 'Moonfleet & Other Stories' tour. "I'm very much looking forward to going on tour in 2013 with 'Footsteps 2'. We'll be performing quite a few songs from it, which I'm really excited about doing."
And so, Chris begins his next adventure - an extensive European and World tour that starts on Friday 5th April 2013, and carries on for the whole year, to all points east and west. The show will include tracks from Footsteps 2, and of course, lots of Chris' greatest hits, and may even include new material, who knows?
Chris de Burgh, probably best known for his 1986 number 1 power ballad "Lady in Red", has announced details of his 2011 UK Autumn tour. Chris and his band will play 5 dates in October 2011 at Cardiff, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Gateshead and Manchester. Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 15th December 2010.
Chris has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and has had 6 UK top ten albums. The new album Moonfleet & Other Stories, a sequence of songs threaded together by narration – concerns itself with a musical and lyrical interpretation of the classic work (a tale of 18th Century smuggling, treasure, friendship, love and loss) by English novelist J. Meade Falkner, elsewhere on the album Chris tackles an extraordinarily diverse and wide-ranging variety of topics.
Chris says “The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say, but to have been involved in a book project which I’ve developed into a musical idea has been very exciting. For me, it’s one of those extraordinary things; if it’s successful, I shall of course be absolutely delighted and, if it’s not, I shall be sorry, but I will know that I have created something to be proud of – and I am very excited about transferring what I have done to the live stage, with all of the possibilities which that will allow.”
